25 years of protecting the environment: The Nature Conservancy in Arizona

This year, the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust is celebrating 25 years of community grantmaking in Arizona. To honor Mrs. Pulliam’s legacy, the Trust supports The Nature Conservancy in Arizona in their efforts to protect and conserve the Verde River.

The worsening drought in Arizona is resulting in considerable cutbacks to the Colorado River allocations, making the need for a flowing Verde River even more important. TNC – Arizona and area farmers, ranchers and tribes implemented new irrigation systems, conversion crops and improved conveyance to reduce water usage. This collaboration has saved 6.6 billion gallons of water in the Verde Valley over the last three years, helping to preserve the drinking water supply for 14 municipalities.
