The Trust is governed by a three-person board of trustees who set overall Trust policy, approve all grants and the Trust's annual budget.

Frank E. Russell, Trustee Chairman

Frank E. RussellMr. Russell shared a business relationship and friendship with Mrs. Pulliam. He began working with her in 1959, serving as the business manager for The Indianapolis Star and The Indianapolis News until 1977. He thereafter served in the management of Central Newspapers, Inc.(CNI), the corporate entity for the Pulliam newspapers in Indiana and Arizona. Mr. Russell was the general manager (1977 to 1979), the president and the chairman of the board (1979 to 1996) and director and chairman of the board (1996 to 1999) for CNI. Gannett Newspapers, Inc. purchased CNI in 2000.

Mrs. Pulliam selected Mr. Russell to be the executor of her estate and a founding trustee for the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust. He is an Indiana native; he received his law degree from Indiana University School of Law and is a Certified Public Accountant. He has homes in Indianapolis and Phoenix where he now shares his time with his wife Nancy.

Nancy M. Russell,Trustee

Nancy M. RussellMrs. Russell was a longtime friend of Mrs. Pulliam's. She is an Indiana native; she attended Butler University in Indianapolis, where she received her degree in business with a minor in English. In 1951, she became a member of the Pulliam newspaper family. A transfer from the Pulliams' Indianapolis newspapers to their Arizona newspapers moved her family to Arizona in 1963. After raising four children, Mrs. Russell managed clothing boutiques, expanding a single-store company to five stores in two states. Mrs. Russell now has homes in Indianapolis and Phoenix and shares her time between the two communities with her husband Frank.


Carol Peden Schilling,Trustee

Carol Peden SchillingMrs. Schilling is Nina Mason Pulliam's niece and was her longtime companion. She was born and raised in Indiana and attended Indiana University, where she received a degree in English literature. After moving to Arizona, Mrs. Schilling became a staff writer and editor for The Phoenix Gazette. Mrs. Schilling now makes her home in Scottsdale where she is active in the community. She shares her Aunt Nina's loves of travel, the Southwest, animals, hiking, music, gardening, writing, and reading. Mrs. Schilling visits family regularly in Indiana.
