(Indianapolis) –The Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust awarded $1,522,155 to
17 Indiana nonprofit organizations Wednesday, November 9. Grant recipients gathered at the Library Services Center, 2450 N. Meridian Street at 3:00 p.m. for a reception with the Trust’s Trustees, staff and representatives from grantee organizations.

"During her lifetime, Nina Mason Pulliam dedicated her assets and business expertise to organizations helping people in need, protecting animals and nature, and enriching community life in her hometown of Indianapolis," said Frank E. Russell, Trustee chairman.

"The Trust is pleased to continue to build on its legacy of community grantmaking through the wonderful work of the Trust family of grantees," said Harriet M. Ivey, Trust president and CEO. "And, of the 17 organizations receiving funding, two are first-time Trust grant recipients," Ivey added.

"Nina spent a lifetime helping others, and her Trust has evolved into a strong resource for nonprofit groups in Indianapolis. With a strong emphasis on encouraging self-sufficiency, the Trust serves individuals, including the elderly and disabled, women, children and their families," Trustee Carol P. Schilling said. The Trust recognized 16 organizations helping people in need with grant commitments of $1,472,155.

"Nina was known for her love of animals and was concerned for their welfare. Throughout her life, she supported efforts to protect animals of all kinds, as well as their habitats and the natural beauty of Indiana," said Trustee Nancy M. Russell. The Trust awarded $50,000 to one organization protecting animals and nature.

These are extraordinary times. And, our grantees are doing an exceptional job of serving their communities and furthering Nina Pulliam’s legacy through their daily work and ongoing commitments to their life-changing missions," said Michael R. Twyman, Ph.D., Indiana grants programs director for the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust.
